Very important measures on COVID-19

prevencion-covid-19

Let's follow all the recommendations.

This is the summary of the latest video-conference by Dr. Francisco Moreno, Director of Internal Medicine and in charge of the COVID-19 area of Hospital ABC in CDMX, and one of the best COVID-19 specialists in Mexico:

1. Face shield and mask / glasses is extremely important. If you wear a mask you protect others and partially yourself. To protect yourself you also need to wear glasses or a mask. The drops can enter the eyes and infect.

2. The contagion is through the drops. They travel a meter and a half and then fall. They live on surfaces. It is best to be 1.5 meters away ALWAYS. To protect you and others.

3. Continuous use of gel with at least 70% alcohol is very good. It helps if you touched a surface with the virus. Have a gel on hand at all times.

4. If you were in contact with someone with COVID, or you were infected immediately notify all the people you saw. Early attention is the most important thing. The nose and mouth test for COVID should be done within 5 days of contact. There are many false negatives if the virus has not reached a sufficient level to be detected in the test.

5. The mask should be changed / washed daily. Do not reuse it. The best masks are kn95. Then the three-layer blues. Then the cloth ones. Mask is better than not wearing anything.

6. Use the oximeter daily. Whether you have COVID or not. Measure that must be greater than 90%. Take it on the left index finger and sitting down. Do not take it after lying down. Three deep breaths and measure for at least 5 seconds. Do not use varnish or gel on the nails.

7. COVID causes spots on the lungs in almost all cases. Stains can last for a long time, even months. As long as the oxygenation is fine there is no need to worry. Spending on lung CT after COVID is not recommended unless oxygenation is low or requested by a doctor.

8. Monitor fever every day. You may have a fever after COVID. It may be due to a bacterial infection that was obtained when you were with COVID.

9. YES there have been cases of reinfections. 30% do not generate immunity. Whether or not you have had COVID, you should continue to take the SAME care and wear face masks and glasses / mask. If you get reinfected you can also infect. The antibodies you generate depend on the viral load you had in COVID. Higher viral loads generate stronger antibodies. Low viral loads generate weaker antibodies. The degree of immunity generated and how long it lasts is not known. Yes, there is a possibility of reinfection. It is not expected to last more than a year and a half at best. People who already had COVID if they will have to be vaccinated.

10. Do not do the antibody test until at least 28 days have passed since the first symptoms.

11. Take vitamin D and zinc.

12. 14 days after the first symptom, the virus dies and you are no longer contagious. In the test you can keep coming back positive for a long time since it detects virus fractions.

13. It has been shown that "immunity" goes down. Multiple tests to see your immunity are not recommended. Whether or not you have antibodies, the care should be the same as if you had never been infected.

14. The prognosis of someone who is admitted to the hospital depends a lot on the stage in which they arrived (hence the importance of the oximeter) and the personnel who treat them who must know how to handle a respirator.

15. CHRISTMAS DINNERS OR MEETINGS / POSADAS ARE NOT RECOMMENDED. The probability of contagion is high. There are many cases of influenza plus COVID at this time and that significantly worsens the prognosis. If you are going to have dinner or meetings, they should be less than 10 people, outdoors, with precautionary measures (space and use of face masks).

16. If you are going to have Christmas dinners, just have one dinner with the family… DO NOT have dinners with several different groups. The rest are put at risk even if they already had COVID.

17. Disinfectant mats are useless. Sanitizing the supermarket is fine but the most important thing is to wash your hands continuously after storing it.

18. Contagion does not necessarily require someone to sneeze or cough. The contagion occurs if someone speaks or shouts. Tiny particles are released.

19. Does not recommend going to gyms. The risk of contagion is very high. People open their mouths a lot and shed a lot more particles when exercising. Only attend if it is the gym without other people. Outdoors there is also a high risk of contagion. Exercise alone.

20. Hypertensive and diabetics have the same risk as the rest if they are controlled. It is extremely important to have blood sugar and blood pressure controlled.

21. The flu vaccine is very important. The quadrivalent is better.

22. The handling of the pandemic in Mexico has been very bad. Very difficult for doctors and health workers. Share the message to raise awareness. To reach herd immunity in Mexico millions of more infections are needed. It is not an adequate strategy.

23. Of the new vaccines he says that there are several with good prognoses. It is not known with certainty when they will arrive in Mexico and their effectiveness. It will be necessary to evaluate which one to agree with your results

24. After COVID symptoms may persist in some cases. Very important to take vitamins. Do not expose yourself, it is very important and continue taking care of yourself. The issue of possible immunity is still weak to fight the disease.
